What is the Buyer's Premium?
It is a percentage added to the auction price. This amount goes to the Auction House. For example, an item sold for $100.00 with a 15% Buyer's Premium will cost the purchaser $115.00.
How do I pay for my purchases?
We accept Cash, Visa, Mastercard, Bankcard, Amex, Diners Club and Eftpos. Once payment has been made in full, jewellery can be collected immediately. Alternatively, a 20% deposit needs to be lodged immediately after the auction with full payment required within one working day.
Are there any reserves?
There are no fixed reserves. However, the auctioneer has wide discretion and can refuse a bid or pass in an item if he deems the bid unreasonable.
How do I bid?
Simply raise your hand, bidding card or call out your bid. The auctioneer will also accept commonly used hand signals...he will explain these in his introduction of the auction.
What happens if I can't stay for the auction but would like to bid on an item?
You can organize to bid over the telephone or you can leave a bid for the auctioneer to execute on your behalf. Please speak to the front desk staff to arrange either.
Where is the jewellery from?
Bankruptcies, business that have closed down or corporate stock liquidations.
Why do people buy jewellery at First State Auctions?
Our customers know that they are buying from a reputable business that is owned and operated by gemmologists and diamond graders. This is why we can guarantee the descriptions on all of the items we sell. At First State Auctions the customer can set the price they are willing to pay, therefore they can purchase quality jewellery at a fraction of the retail value. At our auctions we offer a wide variety of over 200 lots of fine jewellery in a safe yet exciting environment.
Are any of the gemstones man made (otherwise known as synthetic or created gemstones)?
No. We only sell natural gemstones and cultured pearls. Some natural gemstones may be improved by commonly accepted treatments. We do NOT sell fracture filled or laser drilled diamonds.
Can I change my mind on an item already purchased?
No. At First State Auctions, like other auctions, you need to inspect potential purchases thoroughly and evaluate your priorities prior to bidding.
How do I find out about future auctions?
By registering at the auction or online you will receive notices of future auctions in your area.
What does it mean by "catalogue descriptions are guaranteed"?
First State Auctions guarantee that the item is exactly as described. If, for example, the catalogue reads "diamond of 1.00ct" we stand behind that description and you would be entitled to a full refund in the event of an error.
